Adrianos Golemis

Adrianos Golemis works as the Lead Flight Surgeon (medical doctor) for astronauts of the European Space Agency (ESA) in Cologne, Germany. 

He studied Medicine in Greece and then followed an interdisciplinary Master’s for Space Studies in France. He then found himself in Antarctica, conducting research to study the effects of extreme conditions on the human body and psychology, living in confinement for 14 consecutive months. 

He subsequently worked as a medical doctor for the French Institute for Space Medicine and Physiology (MEDES), contributing to clinical studies simulating the effects of space on humans before being seconded to ESA in support of European astronauts and their missions. 

He is a pro bono collaborator of the Hellenic Space Centre (HSC), the Greek space agency. 

In 2022, he became the first Greek ever to succeed in ESA’s competitive Astronaut Selection procedure and aspires to represent Greece for the first time in human spaceflight.
